It's interesting. In the first half of this year, two very different covers of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" have been released — one by The Bad Plus, on their album Prog, the other by Patti Smith on her amazing album of covers, 12. (For the record, I think this is one of the weaker songs on 12, but that's only because it's an outstanding album.) So, here's a little side-by-side taste test for you, starting with the original. (Tip: For kicks, try playing all there at once.)
And a footnote to Vox: Can you fix the issue your having with album art encoded by iTunes not displaying. I mean, iTunes only accounts for about 99% of all consumer MP3/AAC encoding. It's like having your website show up in every search engine except Google.

Re: album art. Even as a life-long Mac user, some stuff about iTunes just pisses me off. They changed the way the album art is stored to save you space. Personally, I didn't need them to make that choice for me.
So this is what I do. It's work at first, but becomes second nature.
I deleted the album art file from the computer. I deselected the option to have iTunes automatically find the art. Then I made my own album art folder inside the iTunes folder (but not in the library, though I don't think it matters much.) Then I added album art to that folder from Google Images, making sure they're at least 300x300. I don't know about your computer; on a Mac I just dragged it into that folder, renaming it the album name. Then I selected each album and got info for it, and added the album art from my new folder. Again, super simple on a Mac; I have no PC knowledge whatsover. I hear they've become quite user-friendly.
They all show up on Vox now. But they're nearly all mp3s. I don't buy music from iTunes unless I'm desperate for it, which I rarely am.

I'm on a Mac too. It's not working for me. Mine are ripped from CDs, but their MP4/AAC. Wonder if that's the issue.
